With a list of all his past lovers, Ne-Yo’s rich vocal tones have clearly wowed women since he was 19! One woman stood out (in his list of partners over the years), and as fate would have it, she would be his longest relationship and strongest. She is Crystal Renay.
Crystal Renay: Who Is Ne-Yo’s Wife? How Did They Escape Divorce?
1. Crystal Renay and Ne-Yo were married on February 20, 2016:
In September 2015, the singer made a public statement that he and Crystal Renay Williams were engaged. In February 2021, Ne-Yo announced that they were expecting their third child together. Their son, Shaffer Chimere Smith, Jr. came into this world on March 15, 2016. Their second son, Roman Alexander-Raj Smith, was born on June 14, 2018. In June 2021, their daughter Isabella Rose Smith was born.
2. They reconciled during the pandemic of coronavirus 2020:
In February 2020, Ne-Yo announced that they were getting divorced, but the divorce did not proceed. The artist also revealed how the pandemic ‘saved’ their marriage as it forced them to not rely on FaceTime and have ‘brutally honest conversations’.
Ne-Yo first married at the age of 19 but divorced shortly thereafter. In 2005, his then girlfriend gave birth to a boy whom she named Chimere (Ne-Yo’s second name). Believing at first to be the father of the child, Ne-Yo later learns that he is not. He was then in a relationship with one of his dancers, Tennille Jimenez from 2009 to 2010.
So a man who has been through divorce once before was able to regain control of his relationship. “The pandemic saved my marriage. We were talking about a full-on divorce. In the pandemic, we lost a lot of people, but in my case it helped a lot of instances in my life. We had brutally honest conversations”, said the singer married to Crystal Renay.
The Grammy-winner added, ‘It doesn’t matter how much money you make if there’s no family to take care of after the fact – there’s just lessons learned. Definitely.’
In June, Ne-Yo also spoke about escaping the brink of divorce ‘the whole quarantine thing was kind of a blessing’, saying:
‘The quarantine kind of forced us to sit still, block out the noise from the world, you know the world can get very, very loud, and we tend to let the world’s opinion mean more in certain situations than it should,’ he said. ‘We’re actually stronger now than we were before; now, we feel like we can really talk to each other.
‘I don’t know when it happened, but we got to a place where we felt like we couldn’t just say it, you know? You’re feeling something, something’s going on, and you know something’s going on, but for whatever reason, you can’t just come out and say it.’
3. Neyo’s girlfriends/love interests before Crystal Renay:
In 2005, Neyo’s girlfriend gave birth to a boy whom she named Chimere (Ne-Yo’s second name). Believing at first to be the father of the child, Ne-Yo found out later that the child was not his.
From 2009 to 2010, Neyo was then in a relationship with one of his dancers, Tennille Jimenez.
In June 2010, Ne-Yo announced that his girlfriend Monyetta Shaw was pregnant with their first child. On November 12, 2010, Monyetta gave birth, in Atlanta, to their first child, a daughter. In September 2011, Ne-Yo announced that he was going to be a father for the second time. Monyetta gave birth, in Atlanta, to their second child, a boy, on October 9, 2011. The couple have since separated.
On February 20, 2016, Ne-Yo married his new partner Crystal Renay. The couple have two sons: Shaffer Chimere Smith, Jr (born March 15, 2016) and Roman Alexander-Raj Smith (born June 14, 2018).
Prior to all of this, the singer first married at the age of 19 but divorced shortly thereafter.
4. Crystal Renay was really angry at his music lyrics:
When Ne-Yo released his first song for 2021, he went on GM Britain on Thursday to promote the song: What If.
While the track had the star reminiscing over a past love and what could have been, the 42-year-old joked about how the lyrics are ‘very dangerous’ for a ‘married man’.
My wife was like, “Is there something you want to tell me?”‘
Ne-Yo insisted to his wife that the song is in no way a reflection of his life, and that this was just the songwriter in him writing about other people.
In the end, his wife Crystal Renay ordered him to sleep ‘on the couch’ one night.
